public speakingHow to be a Public Speaking Star - Avoiding Anxiety

A degree of anxiety will occur as you prepare for the speech, as well as on the day you give the speech. Some things are human nature A degree of natural anxiety can help you to stay alert while sharpen your sense of awareness. If you walk on stage and feel as though you are about to pass out, this is a sign that you are over stress.

One thing you want to remember while you give the speech the people are quietly hoping that you do your best. These people are not expecting you to fail, so in harmony with these people, do not expect you to fail either.

If you have difficulty controlling your thoughts gives you
permission to tell your thoughts to quiet down. One of the best rules of thumbs in dealing with anxiety is to allow room for positive thinking. Most times if you fill the mind with good thoughts it will ease your tension. One thing you can do is picture the audience as your best friends and treat, them accordingly. This will make the people like you.

Some of us have a tendency to think the worst. And most times the worst will not happen. Thus, you can visualize yourself moving toward success by mental imaging you standing on the stage and giving a good speech. A person who spends time visualizing him or her self going toward success will often have success. On the other hand if you think of yourself failing, likely you will fail.

While you are on the stage try to stay focused. You can focus your mind on a specific area in the building that relaxes your nerves. As you do this you can study the lights in the building, the texture of the building, and the faces in the room and so on so that you will feel more at ease.

One of the worst things you can do is beat yourself down. Accordingly, take the time to reward you mentally as you prepare to give the speech. For instance, I made it to the first step of giving the speech, now all I have to do is finish the job and I am on my way to success.

A good deed is to consider the worst possible case scenario. Think, if I fail this speech everyone is going to laugh me off the stage, I won't get my points across and I will never show my face in public again. Now, listen to this logic and laugh a minute as you go back over these thoughts and think of the minor possibilities and deal with them. The worst thing that will happen on stage most times is that you may stumble momentarily, however you can quickly and smoothly undo the stumble.

Now you can start dealing with your emotions. Instead of thinking negative, try to take a few deep breaths, inhale, exhale and breathe out slowly. Breathing techniques have proven to relax the nerves.

You can also observe your body to feel more comfortable with you. Let your feelings come to the fore and accept that these feelings makes you a human being.

If while you are observing your body and notice an area of tension, try to find a way that will not attract attention and relax the parts. This will help you to feel more at ease. Again, remember these people are here to listen to what you have to say, therefore respect their willingness to listen and give them what they deserve.
